Minced beef Biryani recipe from scratch
When we think about Asian food the first thing that most strikes our minds is Biryani. There are hundreds of the ways, by which people can cook biryani. Like biryani recipe with masala, biryani recipe by home spices and in this post, I will share minced beef biryani recipe from scratch. I hope you will love this Minced beef Biryani recipe from scratch. Ingredients
- ½ kg minced beef (you can take minced mutton or chicken as well)
- 1and ½ cups boiled rice
- 2 medium size potatoes (cut into cubes or slice them)
- 250 g cooking oil
- 2 large onions
- 3 large tomatoes
- 3 tablespoon garlic, ginger paste
- 2-inch piece of ginger (julienned, to garnish)
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 8 green cardamom pods (make powder of 4 pods)
- 5 black cardamom pods (make powder of 3 pods)
- 2 large cinnamon stick (make powder of one stick)
- 6 heads of cloves (make powder of 3 heads)
- 1teaspoon red chili flakes
- ½ teaspoon whole black pepper
- 4 medium-sized bay leaves (dried or green)
- Salt, to taste
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder ( optional)
- 250g yogurt
- 7 mint leaves (to garnish, finely chopped)
- Coriander leaves (to garnish, finely chopped)
- 10 saffron threads (optional, but recommended)
- Rose water or kewra (optional, for nice aroma)
- Food Color (optional)
Directions
- I will remind you to wash your hands first.
- Take a large bowl and slice your onions thinly.
- Finely chop your tomatoes or make the paste in blender (paste is recommended)
- Now add all the dry spices Cumin seeds, coriander seeds, 4 green cardamom pods, 3 black cardamom pods, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 heads of cloves(keep 3 safe), black pepper in the blender and make powder and keep aside.
- Now take a large skillet and heat up oil. Add sliced onions and cook them by stirring occasionally. Once you have nice golden brown color turn off the flame, remove the onions from the oil on a plate and set aside.
- In the same oil add bay leaves and the powder of the spices that you have prepared, then add cinnamon stick, black and green cardamoms, cloves, chili flakes, turmeric powder (if you are using) and cook for few seconds (10 seconds) until fragrant.
- Now add ginger, garlic paste, tomatoes paste, julienned ginger and cook by continuous stirring for 2–3 minutes.
- It’s time to add your minced meat and potatoes cook it by stirring occasionally and season with the salt. Cook until the color of the meat will change and all the water will disappear and oil will start to bubble.
- Add yogurt, stir and reduce the heat and cook while covering for more 4-5 minutes. If the water of yogurt is dry the meat is done, remove from flame, sprinkle mint leaves, cover and set aside
- Take a large pot add 4-5 tablespoon of water, now add half of the boiled rice and top it with the layer of cooked minced meat. Add remaining rice and top with minced meat and sprinkle saffron threads and chopped coriander leaves and rose water. If you want to add color then mix in a teaspoon of water and also drop the color on top of layers in a couple of places as dots, no need to spread everywhere. Cover the pot with the lid.
- Turn on the flame on medium high and put the pot with rice and minced meat on flame for 2 minutes and then reduce the heat to minimum for 10 minutes. Steam the rice and meat while covered. Do not remove the lid while steaming.
Dish out the minced biryani and garnish with some chopped coriander leaves. Serve with plain yogurt or make the sauce of yogurt and mint and coriander leaves with one green chili, one garlic clove and 1/2 inch piece of ginger and pinch of salt in a blender.
