Dahi Bhalla Recipe
There are many ways to make Dahi Bhalla Recipe. This is a love for many in South East Asia. Dahi Bhalla is prepared if you are just having gossip with family or if you have visitors. They go best. You are out in street; soon you are pulled with nice aroma of dahi bhallas and the chaat masala on top. You cannot resist but grab a plate from nearby stall.
You can find them everywhere with street hawkers to nice restaurants. In this post I will tell show you easy Dahi Bhalla Recipe. At times, we prefer to buy bhallas from market as they are easily available and cheap in price but is not it good to make your own bhallas, as they are very easy to make.
Ingredients of Dahi Bhalla Recipe
For the (Balls) bhalla:
- 1-cup split Black gram or black lentils (urad dal)
- ½ teaspoon Cumin seeds ( zeera)
- 1 teaspoon shredded coconut (optional)
- Salt, black pepper (to taste)
- pinch dried mint leaves (optional)
- 2-3 cups Oil for deep frying
For the (yogurt) dahi paste of Dahi Bhalla Recipe:
- 500g (2-cups) yogurt
- 1 small green chili
- 2 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander
- 1-2 chopped leaves of mint
- 1-tablespoon sugar
- ½-teaspoon Black pepper (kali mirch)
- Pinch½-teaspoon cumin seeds (zeera)
- ½-teaspoon chaat masala or Garam masala
- Pinch mango powder or tamarind powder (aam choor or imli powder, optional)
- 2-3 heaped tablespoon chickpeas (optional)
- Pinch of sesame seeds, sumac and black seeds (optional, but I love to add)
How to Make Dahi Bhalla Recipe
- Soak urad lentil overnight to prepare the bhallas first.
- In the morning, add lentils with salt, pepper, cumin, dried mint leaves and coconut and grind until it will become a paste.
- Transfer the paste in a bowl and whisk it until fluffy.
- The bhallas batter is ready. Now scoop out some portion of this paste on back of any plate of lid.
- Heat up oil in a pan for deep-frying.
- Pour cold water in a large bowl and set aside.
- Make a hole in the middle with your finger, to make a doughnut type shape.
- Slid the bhallas in hot oil and fry from both side until light golden brown.
- Take out bhallas from the oil and then put in water.
- Leave it in water for couple of minutes then take it out squeeze to remove excess water and then place on a plate.
- Repeat with whole batter and make all bhallas.
- Take a large bowl and add yogurt in it, whisk it a little to break any lumps etc.
- Add salt, pepper, coriander, mint, cumin, and all other listed spices along with sugar and mix with a spoon.
- Put the bhallas and mix again to coat the bhallas with yogurt properly. Sprinkle sesame and black seeds and chopped green chilies.
- To add a nice color I have sprinkled little sumac as well, it is optional)

You can always make green chutney or sweet chutney and add in bhallas and top with little amount of sev to garnish.
