Pakora Recipe
In this post, I thought to share a traditional and a must have Pakora Recipe with all of you. When it’s raining in Pakistan I think more than 60% housewives rush in the kitchen to cook pakora. During Ramadan, more than 80% homes enjoy Pakora during breaking the fast. They are easy and quick to make. The only problem is we Pakistanis like to fry a lot. That is the only reason I try to avoid them but at times my inside shakes me to try Pakora Recipe, no matter what I do to have diet plans.
Ingredients:
- 1 large Potato (peel the skin and cut into thin strips, you can cut horizontally to have thin circular slices too, the choice is yours)
- 6 tablespoon of gram flour
- 1 medium size Onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 medium-size tomatoes (finely chopped)
- 2 medium sized Green Chili (chopped)
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder (optional)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon dry coriander seeds (crush coarsely)
- ¼ teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional)
- 5-6 Mint leaves (finely chopped)
- 2 tablespoon Green Coriander (finely chopped)
- 2 cups of oil for frying
- ¾ cups of Water
Directions
- Take a large bowl and sift gram flour in it. Add all dry ingredients salt, black pepper, chili flakes, cumin, and coriander powder, mix well.
- Now add onions, potatoes, tomato, coriander leaves, mint leaves and mix with spoon.
- Slowly and gradually add water and mix continuously to get a think batter. The batter must coat all the ingredients properly but should not be watery.
- Now if you leave the bowl for about 20 minutes at room temperature the taste will be even better.
- In a large wok or frying pan heat up oil on the medium-high flame.
- When the oil will heat up, turn the fire to the low flame.
- Once the oil is hot add the spoonful of batter in the oil and let it fry on low flame.
- Add 4-5 pakoras at one time.
- If one side is fried and turned golden brown, flip and fry the other side.
- Repeat the process with the whole batter.
Enjoy Pakora Recipe with Green sauce or ketchup.
Note:
You can always add into Pakora Recipe a spoonful of yogurt and shredded chicken, vegetables; spinach, boiled eggs, eggplant, cabbage with the batter to have different tastes.
You can see different versions of Pakora Recipe in the picture. My dear friend Shabina Khan fried these pakoras and we enjoyed them together a lot. They were so yummy.
